For the women of Silent No More, the March for Life is a pilgrimage

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- More than 100 women of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign will take part in the March for Life here tomorrow, and dozens of them will tell the story of their abortion and the damaging impact it had on their lives.

“On this 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, many of these women are making this trip to the nation’s capital a pilgrimage to honor the lives of the children we lost to abortion,” said Georgette Forney, co-founder of Silent No More and president of Anglicans for Life. “We want to be able to honor our children and recognize that we survived this painful and damaging experience. We don’t want any more women -- our daughters, our sisters, our friends -- to lose what we have lost.”

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign was formed 10 years ago when Mrs. Forney and co-founder Janet Morana, executive director of Priests for Life and author of “Recall Abortion,” realized that millions of women were suffering abortion regret alone and in silence because the pro-choice culture refused to admit the truth that abortion hurts women, physically and emotionally.

“We are still trying to reach women who are locked in this prison of remorse and regret,” Mrs. Morana said. “And we are trying to reach women who haven’t made the irrevocable choice for abortion, to tell them that it won’t solve their problems.”

This year, as the women – and men who regret their lost fatherhood – tell their stories in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building immediately following the March, they will call for a government recall of abortion.
“Abortion is not like any other medical procedure,” Mrs. Morana said. “It is done without oversight, without regard for women’s health and with no after-care whatsoever. It is a bad product that needs be removed from the market.”

“Women have traveled from all over the country to make sure their voices are heard,” Mrs. Forney said. “They are looking forward to the day when they will no longer have to make this trip, when abortion is a tragic chapter consigned to history.”

Since the launch of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 5,612 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 1,195 gatherings in 48 states and 10 countries. More than 12,865 people representing 77 countries are registered to be Silent No More.  Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals.  The Campaign has over 1,718 testimonies posted here, with over 214 that are shared via video!
