Changes Possible for Controversial Abortion Clinic Regulations

Changes could be coming to the state's controversial abortion clinic regulations.

Virginia's health commissioner is recommending that the state look at and update regulations enacted under the McDonnell administration that established hospital-style requirements for abortion clinics.

Since tougher standards were enacted for existing abortion clinics across the state two years ago, two clinics have closed and one health center has stopped performing abortions, but those regulations could be amended, as the state's health commissioner Dr. Marissa Levine, announced plans to update the current rules for those clinics.
