Hundreds protest in Richmond at Planned Parenthood clinic

  Hundreds of demonstrators gathered Saturday morning to protest at the Planned Parenthood on Hamilton Avenue in Richmond. The gathering was part of a nationwide day of protest against the organization.

Protesters called for an end of federal funding to Planned Parenthood in light of videos that allegedly show its officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue for profit. The protest remained orderly throughout.

Leslie Blackwell, co-regional coordinator for Silent No More, a nonprofit that opposes abortion, served as emcee at the protest.

Blackwell stood in the back of a pickup truck holding a microphone. She said that for 30 years she was a “radical militant” on the front lines of the pro-abortion-rights movement until having abortions herself changed her perspective.

“After snuffing out the lives of two of my children, I vowed I would spend the rest of my life fighting abortion,” she said.
