Anti-abortion protest draws dozens in Richmond

  During an anti-abortion protest Saturday in Richmond, across the street from the Planned Parenthood center at 201 N. Hamilton St., Baird Stokes told protesters that his mother was just $19 short of aborting him 63 years ago.

Stokes said his mother had the $500 on hand that it would have cost for an abortion, but she impulsively purchased a dress that caught her eye, leaving her $19 shy of the amount needed to fund the abortion and giving her time to rethink it.

It was one of several near-abortion stories told at Saturday’s protest, which attracted about 100 people.

“Every one of you, like me, are abortion survivors,” one man said over a megaphone.
