To Lead Others
Carolyn
Montana, United States

My reasons for having an abortion in 1972 look ridiculously selfish as I review my testimony, but they are the same reasons abortion is still done 45 years later; I was embarrassed to be pregnant, I thought having a baby would ruin my life, and I wasn't ready to be a parent.

Because there were no places to receive an abortion in Montana, I had to fly to Seattle, WA.  It was my first plane trip anywhere.  To say that I was terrified of air travel for the next 30 years was an understatement.

Twelve hours after the abortion, I was huddled in a bathtub trying to deal with horrifying cramps and clots.  Back at home, I partied like nothing happened, but 72 hours after my procedure I ended up in the college health center after passing strawberry sized blood clots. My bleeding was controlled by a pill that helped my uterus contract.

Relationships failed; first, of course, the relationship I believed was headed for marriage. I dropped out of college, drank more, partied more, and felt less and less.  I became promiscuous, hopeless, anxious, and depressed.

In 1996 in a healing Bible study, I got my first clue that I needed God's forgiveness and started my journey to the cross where I've found love, forgiveness, and mercy, and my plan is to lead as many people there as I can because I'M NOT SILENT ANYMORE, and I want to help others find their voices as well.
