A Mother with Nothing to Show

  Elzira
California,  United States

The secret in which consumes her with despair,
Leaving her lips to whisper in constant prayer,
Her heart broken into thousands of tiny shards,
You never told her it would be this hard.
To love herself and those around,
That getting out of bed would be hard found
Each night she thinks of her little one
Pondering who she was and would have become
You stole from her what all the money could never buy
The chance to hear her baby’s first sweet cry
to laugh and play and sing and dance
The moment he sees himself in the mirror at first glance.
Peek a boo and patty cake
His first time on a playdate
Curiosity consumes her mind,
Was this the only job you could find?
To rip them from their mother’s womb,
In a damp cold sterile room?
A broken heart, and eyes filled with tears,
As time passes year after year?
She has a child with a nameless face
A memory that will never fade
Her imagination runs wild and free
At who she pretends her baby could be.
All the photos ripped from the walls of her mind,
Tired of looking for the face she can’t find
Tirelessly awake
Trying courageously to smile fake.
Deep within she knows,
she’s a mother, with nothing to show.
The secret in which consumes her with despair,
Leaving her lips to whisper in constant prayer,
Her heart broken into thousands of tiny shards,
You never told her it would be this hard.
To the cowards who proudly rip babies from the wombs of their mothers.
