SCHENECTADY -- Joscelyn Pease held her daughter Emercyn -- six months old and in constant motion -- and listened to statements against abortion Monday night at St. Luke's Parish Hall.
"I'm just being a part of the movement to stop abortion," said Pease, who lives in Schenectady. "Just a small part."
About 90 people became part of the "movement," filling the hall on State Street for a rally that started Schenectady's 19th "40 Days For Life" drive.
"It's a campaign of prayer, fasting, vigil, going out in front of Planned Parenthood to pray and education, to save babes, moms and dads," said Viviane Strain, the director of the latest pro-life campaign.
Starting on Wednesday -- Ash Wednesday and for Christians the start of the Lenten season -- people will show their support for the end of abortion by gathering in front of Schenectady's Planned Parenthood on State Street.
"Every day, 12 hours a day from 7 in the morning until 7 at night, seven days a week for 40 days from the first day of Lent until Palm Sunday," Strain said. "That's why we try to fill all these hours, at least two people at a time."
