My girlfriend, later wife, then ex-wife, had an abortion in 1972 when we were college freshman. We later married and have two children. At the time we aborted our child we were not connected with any church or faith community. We were married 10 years and had a daughter and son.
I remarried in 1994 in the Catholic Church, and I returned to the church of my youth a year after my divorce and subsequent spiral into alcohol abuse and depression. My now wife also had an abortion in her 20s, roughly 20 years before we met.
We attended a Rachel's Vineyard retreat and found healing and a new freedom to speak out for the unborn.
