At just 14 years old, I found myself facing a pain forced on me, filled with confusion and fear. The fact is that I was forced to abort.
For years this was a shameful wound I had to carry alone. I silenced my voice, thinking it would protect me from facing the truth. I was ashamed of putting myself in the situation and not standing up for myself or for my baby.
I was lied to and silenced. I was giving no options or explanation. I was nieve and so young I didn't speak up and I did not understand the damage of that moment.
Over 35 years ago
I was walked into a clinic to confirm my pregnancy to determine how far along I was.
I walked out changed, not knowing the procedure that had just been performed, no one explained. I didn't know this was the beginning of death for my baby.
The next day my baby was ripped from my womb. I didn't know then that I was 15 weeks pregnant, day one was to damaged my baby and day 2 was to remove my baby boy from my womb.
40+ years later, I sat in my room doing research for my book, I found a video of a lady giving her testimony. I sat crying in my room listening to her bold testimony, that empowered me. Thank you for your courage Adrianna.
After my abortion I fell into self-destruction, more promiscuity, drug and alcohol abuse, I did everything to not feel. My story, though painful, is not mine to carry in shame but a testament to resilience and strength. My testimony is about how good God is and how his forgiveness and healing has power.
I refuse to fear telling my story and I am determined to help women shout theirs aloud. Ladies WE MUST hold the hard conversations, in homes, schools, and in churches. We need educate women and young girls, we need to empower each other with truth. We must help other post abortive women through the journey of healing.
Today I stand for every girl who has ever felt cornered, silenced, or ashamed. I have found strength in God's word. His word says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" I believe in that horrible moment that my baby was torn from my womb, he instantly was in God's presence safe and secure.
But before I go..
The most important thing about abortion that I think women need to know, whether its your choice or not, whether you chose a physical abortion, or chose to take an abortion pill. You will, one day regret it. It will haunt you and break your heart into pieces.
Abortion is not something you can do then ignore as if it didn't happen. It will return, days or even years later. It will break your heart over and over again UNTIL you go through recovery and get help with healing.
My silence is over; today, I speak not just for myself, but for all women whose voices have been muted and who hearts have been broken. Together, we will overcome. WE deserve to heal and I choose today to be SILENT NO MORE!
